3DMF file converter

From: Joe Raffanti
Hi everyone, I had a quick question which I hope someone here may be
able to answer: do you know of an app which can convert files from
3DMF to 3DS or COB and back to 3DMF?
Or, is there an RB plugin or something I could use for this
purpose? (If not, I might go ahead and try making one if it looks
feasible enough).

Thanks,
Joe Raffanti

Meshwork can convert between some 3DMF and 3DS files, though the
conversion is not lossless. It's a much more difficult problem than
you might expect.

I vaguely recall another tool that could convert among a variety of
3D file formats (it didn't do any editing; it was just a converter).
But it wasn't very well supported at the time, and that was years
ago; I doubt it's still around.

No plugin would be needed; you could do this in pure RB code. Every
now and then people ask for something like this, but so far nobody
has found the right combination of ambition, time, and skill to
actually do it. It'd make a great open-source community project,
though...

Best,
- Joe

In response to my own question, and for anyone else who needs this, I
just found a simple freeware Mac app which can convert many 3D file
types(so far I have not tried it out much, but it seems to work OK)
