Does MDI is supported

Dear All,

Does MDI is supported on Realbasics.

I have created an VB application on
window and trying to migrate it to
linux. My application contains MDI
form.

So, I am not able to drag my MDI
form to Real Basic project window.
So, does it is supported or not.
If it is supported then how to do it.

Any help appreciated.

Yes, it is supported. Go to File->Build Settings and select Windows
from the popup. Under that is an option for creating MDI applications
(a checkbox) -- check that and you have an MDI application.

HTH!

Thanks for your response Aaron .

But when i drag my VB MDIform to RB project
window then it doesn't add it to the forms
list, where all other normal form is added to
project window.
So, please tell me why my MDI form is not
added to project window even i had tried your
suggestion.

Any help appreciated.

Akshat

AFAIK, that functionality is not supported. However, you may want to
try to VB project converter:
<http://highspeed.realsoftware.com/REALbasic554/VBPC.zip> since that may
help port the application over for you.

Thanks Again Aaron !

VB converter also doesn't support
MDI form (it is wriiten in RealBasic
User Guide in chapter 15).

So, any other solution.

None that I can think of. It looks like you'll have to port that form
by hand. But you should file a feature request that the project
converter properly handle MDI forms from VisualBasic -- I'm sure
someone else will run into this some day.

Sorry!

Thanks Aaron !

Does Real Basic supports any similar feature
of MDI form feature of VB ? If yes, then how
to use it to develop my VB application MDI form
in RB.

That's what i am trying to draging by hand(mouse)
MDI form to Project Window of RB, but it is not
accepting it neither it gives any message.

So,is ther any way to get rid of this problem,
is there any feature to develop MDIform portion
of my VB into RB.
So, that i will develop that part convert rest
part of my VB application to make my porting
successfull on linux.

Any help appreciated.

Yes, from the Build Settings dialog you can enable building for MDI.

Then you should make a new Class object and set its Super to MDIWindow.
Now you have all the events for the MDI window frame and can place
your code in there.

MDI is not a concept that really exists on Linux, so your application
will not display an MDI window there. Instead, it will look like an
SDI application with multiple windows (no encompassing frame with a
global menu bar). If you are porting an MDI application to Linux, you
should rethink the design of the application.
