Cross-Platform GroupBox Display Bug?
Date: 11.02.05 00:50 (Thu, 10 Feb 2005 18:50:07 -0500)
From: Adam Voigt
I just noticed in the Mac/PC application I'm working on, on the Mac, the
GroupBox control has the box underneath the box's caption, but on the
PC, the box goes straight through the center of the caption. A minor
issue, but it does make it hard to put other text aligned on the same
x-axis as the box's caption since theres a line running through it on PC
(which consiquently doesn't look as good this way) but not on Mac. I
know there's a conditional you can do to check if it's being compiled
for Mac or PC, but it seems like you shouldn't have to do that.
Apologies if I'm mis-classifying this a bug but, well, I'm a RB newb.

Thanks,

Adam Voigt

You're seeing the standard UI for both platforms, so the short answer
is -- that's just the way things work.

I wouldn't try lining anything up conditionally since that may end up
giving you a non-standard look on the platform.

Well my guess is that isn't going to change. I think RB uses the platforms
native groupbox and on PC that is how they are displayed on most apps, not
just RB apps, but on Mac they are as you describe. I don¹t think this is a
bug, as this is really up to the platform/os. Another example is the
differences in tab control appearances on Mac OSX 10.2 and 10.3. That
change forced a bit of readjustment on one of my apps. I don¹t know of any
way around this, other then making your own group box?

Paul

Oh, I see. Well, that makes sense. I just tried putting in a check for
TargetWin32 and if it exists, it shifts the labels position up by 10
pixels, that seems to fix it. A hack, but it works.

Thanks again.
