1) Get the OSX-Utils plugin to remove the Preferences menu if you don't
need it.
2) Place this code in the HandleAppleEvent event of an Application class
instance:

select case eventClass

case "aevt"

select case eventID

case "pref"
//Mac OS X pref menu

end select

end select

return true

This should allow you to handle the menu. I don't know the URL for the
OSX-Utils plugin, so can anyone reply to this mesage and post it?

Can someone enlighten me, and tell me what this is all about?

Does RB 3.5 incorporate a mandatory "preferences" menu in your application?

OSX provides a preferences menu item. This is about how to use that
menuitem.

I tried searhcing the list on Yahoo, but it has been broken for a few days now.

Can anyone tell me what the result of this thread was? I want my
preferences to appear under the correct dedicated menu in OSX.

Thanks,
-Cristian

It's quite simple. Use this to enable the default preferences menu:

Declare Sub EnableMenuCommand Lib "CarbonLib" (inMenu as Integer,
inCommandID as OSType)
EnableMenuCommand 0, "pref"

then handle eventID "pref" in the HandleAppleEvent event of you application
class - whenever you receive one, that means someone chose the preferences
menuitem.

then you just have to hide your old preferences menu item using .close or
.visible = false.

Oh, when you .close your menuitem, do it in the open event of the
application, not the EnableMenuItems event. Otherwise you'll get a nil
exception.

Nope, but OS X does.

No, OSX does. That was the steps necessary to use it.
