Does anyone know if there is a limit to the number of folders and files
that can be contained in a root folder?

George

32768? 65536? It's a lot. You could always write a script and let your app
churn away and make 32768 directories. I'll try it later tonight.

Hi George,

I do not have a number to give.

All I have to say is: if you have a slow Macintosh, each time you add a new file in a folder, you increase also the time to optn
that folder.

For your info, it took me some seconds (from 5s to... forever) when I have more than say, 500 items (small items from www) in a
single folder. The times goes from 5s to nearly a minute (or even more) when I reach 1,000 items.

And when I want to copy or move them, I have time to smoke a cigarette or two (the problem is that — fortunately — I do not smoke).

Depending on what you want to do, you may have to go to RB 4.5 and use the Volume File stuff...

Emile

No, I'm afraid I don't. But I do know that Navigation Services dialogs can
only display 999 items(files or folders) in their list.
