Duplicating some IDE behavior
Date: 08.05.02 14:20 (Wed, 8 May 2002 08:20:37 -0500)

Hi

I'm relatively new to RealBasic, about 4 months of work on it, although
I've been programming for ( gulp ) 16 years. I have a question I'm
hoping someone can help me with.

I would like to duplicate a behavior that is in the IDE ( and also in
the Visual Basic IDE ) where in the editor when we start to type in a
keyword or object name we get the full word displayed, though grayed out
on the right side of the cursor. I'd like to be able to duplicate this
behavior in an EditField, but am not quite sure where to look. Any
suggestions?

Thanks in advance
Sue

You can write an EditField subclass which adds this behavior. A simple
approach is to add an array of type String. Fill the array with the
list of keywords and sort it. Then match the text and format the results
as you like in the TextChanged event.

A dictionary could also be very useful for this.
