Window Open complete?

Hello, NUG -

I'm using RB3.5.2....

Can someone suggest a method to tell when a window has completely opened?

My situation is this: depending on how the app was closed, it can open with
a fair number of windows. The windows can include "maps" consisting of
large images (jpg, gif, tif, etc) overlaid with extensive vector data
(county and state boundaries, roads, etc). Thus, they can take quite a
while to open.

At the present time, mere completion of the Open event is not sufficient to
signal completion of the opening process. I know this because I can see a
window open, start to move to its former position (done in the open even),
then be interrupted by the opening of the next window.

Why do I want to know? Well, I'd like to handle the app's initialization
process somewhat like Netscape does with a splash dialog telling about the
app and where it is in the initialization, but with the windows not
visible. When all are in place, the splash goes away and the windows become
visible. A timer does not seem suitable because it will depend on the OS
and processor clock speed. Thus, some way of knowing when its finished
would be useful.

So, your hints are solicited.

Many thanks,

Jim Wagner

Sounds like much of the initialization you're doing in the windows' Open
events ought to be done elsewhere, so that it can be done prior to
actually showing the windows. This will probably require separation of
the document from the window, but that's not a bad thing anyway. Handle
each window's contents in a set of classes that can be dealt with without
a window.
