It's pretty obvious from his reference to Pixie.

Notes on the beta:

* The Show Options Dialog radio doesn't show selected when the prefs window
is opened. Nothign is selected if that is supposed to be selected.

* The window default positions don't respect the dock. I keep the dock in
the upper-left and I have to hide the dock simply to move the info bar.

* The windows don't remember their positions

* There should be a menu and contextual menu submenu for changing
magnification without going into prefs. Either that or stick it in the info
bar.

And what is this Pixie? There are some souls on the list that are Windows
babies...aka, Mac-unaware. ;-)

Pixie is a part of dev tools on X, it's a magnifying glass utility.

Pixie is a pixel magnifier/viewer that is part of the Apple's OS X
development tools.

Unless you don't know what Pixie is/does. :)

Seriously, though, I think all good product announcements should be
written as if the reader has never heard of the product before and has
no idea what is does or could be used for.

After all, if you are writing an announcement, it's to get people to
look at your app and a lot of people (myself included) won't look at
something without knowing what it is. I personally have little time to
dl every app and try it; I will only try those apps that I think might
be useful to me. If I don't know what your app does, how will I know if
it's useful? And if it is useful, but I don't know that, chances are it
will never get tried by me, thus losing you a potential customer.

Simple marketing, really.

Ahh, but this announcement has generated more traffic on the list than
any other I remember. Heck, I think it's had more responses most RB
releases! Now that's good PR! Way to go, Seth! Ever thought of a career
in marketing? :)

Wahoo!!!!!!!

But seriously, I'm sorry for the confusion. I would have figured that my
post from 3 days earlier on Pigmy 1.0 would have been read, but then again,
maybe not...

More people responded to ask or tell about Pigmy than those who gave
feedback about it! Anyway, try it out!

Unfortunately, it reminds me of the commercial that everyone remembers but
no one remembers the product. :(

Not good marketing. :(

On MacOS 8/9, there's a similar tool (that virtually nobody has ever
seen, because it's buried somewhere deep in the "Apple Extras" folder).
I believer it's called something like "DigitalColor Color Measurement"
(in the German version it's "DigitalColor Farbmesser").

It's a tool to look at the color values of single pixels anywhere on the screen.

Cheers,
