On a related note... I cannot figure out how to pass return characters for
the body of an email using showurl. While OS 9 allows me to encode returns
as %0D, neither this or the alternative %0D%0A works in X.

Any help out there?

Try just %0a, unless that is what you meant by "neither this or the
alternative %0D%0A works in X". If that is the case, then I don't know.
