Sonnet G3 Upgrade Card & REALbasic

Has anyone ever experienced or heard of a MWRB program having conflicts
with a Sonnet G3 Upgrade Card? On of my customers reports to have a,
"PPC is a 7500 with the Sonnet G3 upgrade card" and is getting a
NilObjectException at startup of my app. None of the other customers
have reported this error. He is using the Carbon version of my software
with OS 8.6. I suggested he use the "Classic" build, and do not know if
he has.

If someone has a computer with this upgrade card, and would be willing to
test my software on it, please let me know off the list. I would
appreciate the test.

The software can be accessed at <http://www.mycheckbook.net>

Thanks,

Ryan Dary

Yeah, those things cause a fair number of problems. We've built in
workarounds for all the ones we know about, but it's possible your
user has discovered some new one. What version of RB are you using?

That's a good thought though; it's entirely possible that it's
something in CarbonLib that's having the problem.

Cheers,

I am using version 4.0.2 to compile the app. Also, he said he tried the
Classic version too. I compile on a iMac SE 400hmz. So I am not
compiling with the Upgrade card. Just in case that makes any difference.
Also, I am compiling on Mac OS X for both Classic and Carbon. Could it
make a difference if i compile on Classic or Carbon?

Thanks,

There is a definite bug(s) with some earlier Sonnet upgrade cards. When
using REALbasic to compile apps on these machines you sometimes get "bad
builds" unless you turn of the Sonnet extension. This hasn't actually
affected built apps in the past (that I can recall) but it sounds like your
particular app hit upon such a bug.

Ask your user to restart their machine with the Sonnet upgrade extension
turned off. If this fixes the problem then it's pretty conclusive that's
where the problem lies. There may be upgraded software on the Sonnet site
by now but I wouldn't count on it.
