Hi all,

RB 4.5.2 X, iBook 800 MHz (RAM: 256 Mo), Battery usage.

I have a rainbow wheel each time I type Val, MsgBox, and so on.

It hurts in the way it stops the computer for some seconds.

Probably abnormal, but I ask here.

(of course, I can uncheck that feature, but I want to see it)

As far as I can remember, it wasnt the case when I used the
PowerMacintosh 8100/80 !

Thanks,

Emile

FWIW, when I often encounter this behavior in the IDE, although I haven't
associated it with specific RB statements. Presumably, the slower your CPU,
the more likely delays will occur, and the longer the rainbow wheels.

It also occurs while typing the first line of a method or handler.

Out of curiosity, is anyone else frustrated that adding a method expands the
Controls hierarchy list, totally messing up my view of the methods I've been
working on?

I saw the same behavior on my TiBook and yes it is extremely annoying. I
turned off the sound for the tip window and now it seems to work nice and
fast.

I've noticed many times that RB pauses on my iBook (OS 9, though) at
these situations because it spins up my hard drive (probably to load the
Tips window text form somewhere) and has to wait until the HD is
"ready". Workaround: Connect your power supply and don't let the HD spin
down ;)

Cheers,

Yes, quite so. I've never heard of it taking several seconds to
present a tip. I'm trying to think of what might cause that, but
nothing leaps to mind. Perhaps you should report it as a bug, so our
QA team can try to reproduce it here.

Best,

Ah yes, that could indeed cause it. We get the tip text (as well as
all other text in the IDE) from the resource fork, so if that
resource hasn't been touched yet, it will have to be read from disk.
