Adding aliases to a poject

I was reading the developer guide and noticed that if one hold
COMMAND-OPTION while dragging files from the Finder to a REALbasic
project, then aliases of the files should be added, not the files
themselves. I have tried this, but the files themselves are added
regardless of what I try. Am I doing something wrong?

If this is broken, is there a work around to add aliases of files to a
project rather than copies of the files, as documented in the developer
guide?

What version of RB are you using? It works fine for me. I use it all
the time.

Yep. Maybe you're releasing the command and option keys before
dropping the file?

This actually happened to me as well and I tried various existing
projects, new projects, new classes, etc. to no avail. The only thing
that ended up working was restarting (which obviously I don't do all
that often in OS X, so it took me a while to try it...). I have no idea
why that cleared the problem up, but it did.

Ah, that would no doubt be because of the OS X bug where GetKeys (the
toolbox call used to asynchronously check keyboard state) stops
working until you restart.

That makes sense. I can't remember who manages the FAQ, but this sounds
like a good candidate for inclusion in a future revision.

I am using RB 4.5.2 under MacOS X 10.2.2 -- actually I thought I had a
clue as to the problem, but I was mistaken.

Because of another situation, namely being that the files need to be
added in an order different from their alphabetical order, I had
renamed the files with a numeric prefix to force a sorted order in the
Finder, which then ensured that when all of them are dragged together
to the project that they are added in the proper order. I though that,
perhaps, the renamed files were causing the problem.

I created a new project, created a folder, went to Finder, selected all
of the files to be added from the original set (not renamed), held down
COMMAND-OPTION, and dragged them to the folder in my project -- and the
result was a copy, not aliases!
