I've had occasion to do this (it's a virtual scoreboard program for
Australian football, in which it is conventional to blink the most
recent score for a few seconds). And yes, a timer is what you have to
use.

Hi,

Does anyone know how to make static text blink on and off?

Brian

Someone drag this guy in the backyardand shoot him before the style
police comes and slices him to shreds! ;-)

Do. Not. Make. Text. Blink. What is it? 1997 back all over again?
What's next, <marquee> tag 2, The Return? :-)

Anyway, the answer to your question is: use a timer.

I stand corrected, perhaps a bad idea. Sorry.

Gotta go style police at the door.

There are sometimes perfectly legitimate reasons to have blinking text.

I created an app for a client which monitored some embedded processes
and their values. The app was part of a multi-app projection system
in the client's control room. When the operators' attention would
need to be grabbed, I would turn the colors of the values red and
blink the text at decreasing intervals depending on how much time
passed before the alert was acknowledged.

one blink. maybe two. but no more... :+)

of course, you _could_ have asked
how to make text _pulsate_, like
um, the default button, and _that_
would have been ok, i guess... ;+)

(i found taking it up and down a few
point-sizes accomplished that trick,
as long as the text was centered...)

p.s. remember when o.s.x. was just a baby,
and the pulsating used scads of chip-cycles?
eye-candy -- it's not just for dinner anymore...
