RB 2005r2 Crash
Date: 02.08.05 17:37 (Tue, 02 Aug 2005 18:37:53 +0200)
From: Alberto Paderno
I uninstalled RB 2005r1 and installed RB 2005r2, but it continues to
crash with a Windows Error 0xc000005.
I also tried to reset my pc and to put the TMP folder on its default
place, to be sure RB (in the case it could write files in that folder)
should not run on a "disk space exausted" situation.

It seems the same crash I saw on RB 2005r1 when I installed some
plugins, and RB continued to crash even when the plugins have been
removed. And the only solution was to reinstall all Windows, to make it
run again.

Now a question. I guess in both cases RB writes some files in some
places and, or it doesn't delete them or it's not able to delete them,
but those files cause RB to crash. Where does it create those files?

I am litterally going crazy, with 4 Windows reinstallations, in about
one week, one week and a half.
Thanks.

Do you have QuickTime 7 installed?

Yes, I did. But I didn't install it back, yet.
Anyway, if it's QuickTime 7, that is strange, as it didn't create
problems before I installed RB 2005r2 or the plugins.

Shall I wait QuickTime 7 comes out in its definitively version?

Thanks for the suggestion.

QT 7 is known to cause crashes with REALbasic (and not just RB 2005
either, I've seen it with 5.5.5 as well). We're looking into the issue
currently. Until then, I'd hold off on installing QT 7 on Windows.

I'm finding that QT7 causes problems not only with RB, but with any other
software I have that use QT. I have some computer-based training CDs and
some games that use QT. All failed to work with QT7 installed. Had to go
back to v6.5 (what gives with being forced to get iTunes at the same time?!
Geez)

I'm (for the time being) staying as far away from QT7 as I can.

Sincerely,

Scott Pawluk
REALbasic v5.5.5, Windows XP SP2

Thanks very much. I was going crazy to resolve this issue. Now I know I
can install the plugins I had without to be worried.

There is also the QT 6.5 for Windows 98, which doesn't come bundled with
iTunes. And I think that QT for Win2000, WinXP isn't any different from
the version for Win98, WinME.

Cheers.

Infact, QuickTime 6.5 + iTunes 4.9 is for Win2000, WinXP just because
iTunes works only with those Windows versions. See
http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/.

Cheers.
