AstroPlanner does, indeed, use the Einhugur GammaLib. It works
wonderfully on the Mac (both Classic and Mac OS X), but it's pretty
hopeless on Windows: if it does work on the video card (about 10% of
the time), it hardly makes a difference to the brightness. I believe
it's the way Microsoft interprets "gamma". Actually, I seem to recall
supplying Bjorn with the Windows gamma code for GammaLib - so you can
blame me.

What I did (and I can assure you it's all-in wrestling) was to use
code that changes the Windows interface colours. With lots of work
you can get this to work. Unfortunately, it only works well (sic) on
the Windows Classic GUI scheme. Microsoft seemingly forgot to update
this part of the API when they moved to XP and some parts of the GUI
are not coloured. Also, RB doesn't use this scheme in some of their
controls (the most glaring (literally) example being checkboxes in
listboxes), which makes for more workarounds.

Alternate Control Color Combinations?

Hi Folks,

Has anyone experimented with (or succeeded :) ) changing control color
schemes? I'm working on a side-project that will be used by Amateur
Astronomers and I need to be able to shift to a red-scale color scheme
(think Logic or Pro Tools' grey-blue palette, but in reds). For
night-vision retention while using a computer, the user either must put
a dark red film over the LCD, or the app should have a red mode. So
far, my attempts have been less than successful as there's always a
white or light grey peeking out from somewhere. The brightest shade
used would be &cB0464A.

(BTW) this is why i've discovered the Color Picker crash so readily
today :( .

Any tips on going all red?

Tim

Hi Tim,

Einhugur's GammaLib (<http://www.einhugur.com/>) does what you need.
It's what I use in DarkAdapted (<http://www.adpartnership.net/
DarkAdapted/>) which is in use my many an astronomer and planetarium
director.

I believe Astroplanner uses this, as well, and I know that my own
ScopeDriver (<http://www.adpartnership.net/ScopeDriver/>) uses
GammaLib extensively.

It works great on Mac OS, but it's kind of hit-or-miss on Windows
systems. Some users report full success, others have some success,
and it doesn't work at all of some Win32 systems.

Thanks, Steve, I'll take a look at Einhuger.
