[BUG] Using realSQLdatabase with a UB or Intel build crashes the app

A very generic RB app which uses the realSQLdatabase will not run
more than 1 minute on an Intel Macintosh. Crashes are sometimes just
"quits" and other times invoke a RB failed assertion dlog.
The same app compiled as a PPC and run on the Intel Mac under
emulation works just fine.

Example app located at:
<http://www.classonesoftware.com/DemoApp.zip>

Build the DemoApp as a UB or Intel specific build. Run on any intel
based Mac (I used MacBook)
The app will crash very quickly.

Run as a PPC build on a PPC Mac (I used G4 Quicksilver). Works great.
Run same app on Windows, works great.

This is a biggie for me. Both of my feature apps use a realSQLdb. As
such, I can't offer my user a UB build.

If this affects you, please sign on!!!

Roger,

I have an app that runs an RB SQLLite DB that does not exhibit that
behavior...I wonder if there is something unique about mine or yours that
might be causing or not causing it. I also am wondering if theres a
possibility that mine just hasn't done that yet. Mine uses a local SQLLite
DB and synchronizes with an mssql or other dbms if it is present. I am
running it on a macbook compiling in 07r3 as a UB target - it seems to be
running quite well and to be very stable so far. Is there something on my
app you think might trigger the behavior?

Hmmmmmm,

Hi Sean -
Would you have a chance to DL my demo app from the URL given...

and see if it crashes for you?

Might I be able to try your app on my system and see what happens?

Thanks

Roger,

I built and ran your app and it does crash quite quickly on an Intel Mac.
The crash log says that it crashed running the DatabaseQuery. I'm wondering
if the bug is specific to bindings and DatabaseQuery objects. Our app that
uses RealSqlDatabase is running fine on Intel but it uses neither of these
RB features.

Chris

Excellent thought, Chris.
I'll remove the bindings and see what happens.

Well, Chris, it looks like you have saved me a world of hassle. I
have removed the DBQuery to Listbox bindings and, so far, not a
single crash.
I will continue to investigate this tomorrow and if it proves to be
the reason, I will amend my feedback report to say that users should
be warned that using DBQuery bindings in a UB build will result in
crash. Having such a warning would have saved me many hours.

Thanks

Hey that's a great find so quick! Yes it did crash on mine too.

I'm glad that solved your problem. There is nothing worse than trying to
track down RB framework bugs. Definitely log a bug about the DBQuery and
control bindings. It crashed on adding the first class for me so I would
think some one at RS would be able to track the problem down fairly quickly.

... since long. Thus, I implemented my own binding mechanism.

4) Container Controls but evil
