FolderItem--IsReadable

What determines if RealBasic considers a file readable or not??
I have *.CSV files saved from both Excel and OpenOffice.

The files saved from Excel will open(f.folderitem <> nil and f.exists
= true) and Stream is assigned a value and the file will be read.

The files saved from OpenOffice will open(f.folderitem <> nil and
f.exists = true) BUT In the f.folderItem properties IsReadable is
False, Stream is NOT assigned a value and the file cannot be read.

The file not readable by RealBasic (IsReadable = False) is readable
by Excel, OpenOffice, NotePad and WordPad.

Any Help would Be appreciated!!

This is a guess.

ODF files are compressed automatically (ZIP, gzip, or something).
But, what is compressed is a directory of files, not a single file.

Given the symptoms that you describe, I am guessing that it is
auto-uncompressing the data and seeing a folder, not a file. Try
opening it as a folder.

The RB-Language Reference says the following (p. 240):

IsReadable is True if you have permissions to
read from the FolderItem. It is not a guarantee
that the read will succeed. If you want to read
from a file, you should simply attempt to do so.
If the read operation can work, it will work.
