OT USB EDGE Modem

From: Carlo Rubini
Hello,
a few months ago I bought a Motorola mobile phone, and connecting it
to a USB port of my oldish iMac I can connect to the NET. Downloading
speed is between 13 and 19 kB/sec. But sometimes it is 24kb/sec.
The problem is that the higher the 'speed' the less I can use it,
since after a certain amount of Mb downloaded the Motorola battery
looses its charge and consequently the connection comes to an end. It
takes about 45 minutes to have the battery fully recharged in order
to start again a download.

So I was thinking of buying a USB EDGE Modem, but unfortunatelly the
ones I find on the local market are not 'seen' by the iMac (i.e. they
dont mount). Only the 'Samba 75' (of a friend of mine) would work,
but it is no more available; and the one I found today (Vodafone
MD950) is 'seen' by the iMac but it cannot connect succesfully. The
Internet Connect log says:
Mon Nov 24 14:04:44 2008 : Hangup (SIGHUP)
Mon Nov 24 14:04:44 2008 : Modem hangup
Mon Nov 24 14:04:44 2008 : Connection terminate

Therefore my question: is anybody on the list using a USB EDGE Modem
on the Mac? And in such case, would his/her device be buyable on the
NET ?
Any suggestion more than welcome.

BTW: iPhone is out of the question since, apart its price, it is not
available here.
And, yes, I replaced the battery with the only available (Chinese)
replacement; and the situation is worse than before...

Thanks,

Carlo

May be you can try:

<http://www.option.com>

I used their USB ICON EDGE key and it worked fine for me on my
PowerBook and my MacBook.

Eric.
