MS SQL Server in RB

From: Andrew Keller
Short question: Is there a way to connect to an MS SQL Server database
without using ODBC (Windows)?

We are considering trying out RB for one of our jobs, but there is a
little issue that is worrisome. In a past job, we had problems with
using ODBC drivers to connect to an MS SQL Server database, and the
problem was fixed by using VB's built-in SQL Server connectivity
functions instead of ODBC. The problem was with a very specific (but
in our case, critical) SQL statement that failed when it shouldn't
have. The weird thing is, even with all the information we collected,
we were unable to reproduce the problem on our computers nor fix the
problem on theirs. In the end, the only reason things worked was
because there was an alternative to the ODBC drivers.

Hypothetically speaking, if we were to encounter a similar problem in
RB, what are the options?

Thanks,
Andrew Keller

Check the SQL Plugin I made. It supports MS SQL without ODBC.

ODBC or ADO via OLE objects
