VB Support: forward to the past?

Was mildly interested seeing the new VB Migration Assistant for sale.

I thought RB already had things like this in place? RB 4.52 and 5.5
you could load in .bas or .cls files and you'd get the straight stuff
out of it. Then RB2005 had the VB thing included. I tried it and it
was too strange on some fronts.

As a VB guy for a long time, and generally love it, I found after
long bits of experience that since RB has some great strengths that
VB does have, it's almost always best to do the snippet-by-snippet
method. That's because ultimately you'll want to redesign your
program once it's in RB. I even tried RB'izing my VB apps with a VB
MemoryBlock class and a set of coding principles that mimiced RB, but
I found again that starting from scratch with RB and snippeting
things in made for a better end result.

Now I use VB simply as a code-production tool, since it debugs
fantastically and you can change values during debugging, and it's
faster then RB in a lot of ways. I convert my VB code to C++, not RB.
I use RB as my main interface and compiler, because of it's
cross-platform ability. I create my RB code from scratch, and use my
VB work in C++ controlled from the RB app. Best of both worlds in my
perspective.

But that's just my experience. Perhaps the new Assistant does things
better and has it's own specialties.
