After extensive googling, and a handful of dead links, I turn to you for guidance. Is there a library or set of classes out there for working with iTunes libraries? I'm specifically interested in something that would let me enumerate items in the iTunes library, as well as change the values in a particular data field for certain items.
What I'm specifically hoping to create is an app that will go through an iTunes library, and generate MD5 hashes for library items, and store those hashes in the comments field. Then, on future runs, the stored hash could be compared to the computed hash, alerting the user to any files which have silently changed on disk between runs.
I realize this could easily be done in a shell script in combination with some AWK or whatever, but I am learning RB and want to develop in RB to gain experience.
The overall idea for this app is to detect digital rot while backups are hopefully still available via Time Machine or whatever.
Thanks for any guidance on iTunes and RB!
