Hence why I prefer being called "Canadian".
American has unfortunately been applied to citizens of the USA.
Whether thats good or bad is a matter of perspective.

Actually quite the contrary. Much of the offense taken by us in the states as being "Americans" is that it denies that name to the rest of the people in the hemisphere.
