Strings passed in escaped?

I have a string being pass to my plugin. The string contains single
quotes ( ' ). It looks like RB is escaping the quotes ( \' ). Is this
by design? Is there a way to stop that? I would rather not have to do a
search and replace of the ( \ ).

Are you sure you don't get an UTF8 or a Unicode string from RB?

It doesn't look like it. The only thing different in the string I see
in the plugin from the one in RB is the single quotes are escaped as in
( \' );

Are you sure this is not an artifact of the debugger, or whatever it is you
are using to display the string in your plugin?

Yes that turned out to be it. When I looked at the string in REALstring
it wasn't escaped. When CW displayed the std::string that I had
assigned the REALstring to it showed the quotes escaped.

Where are you seeing the escaping, just out of curiosity? In other
words, how do you know it is being escaped?

I the CodeWarrior debugger. The original string was "value = 'today'".
I constructed a std::string like:

std::string myString(<passed in RB string>->CString());

When I looked at the value of myString in the debugger it looked like
this: "value = \'today\'".
