[MBS] Conflict between ChartDirector and QuickTime movie functions

There seems to be some sort of conflict between ChartDirector, and
the various QuickTime functions, such as QuickTimePresentMBS (maybe
others, I have not tried them all). If I have the ChartDirector file
in my plugins folder, I get a runtime error that QuickTimePresentMBS
doesn't exist. Removing the ChartDirector plugin file solves the
problem. Yes, I've made sure the cache folder is empty. Anyone else
seeing this?

What RB Version? What plugin versions? What operation system?

Can this be reproduced on another computer?

RB 2007R5
82pr8 (also happened with a previous version, perhaps the first one
that ChartDirector was available)
OS X 10.5.2

>Can this be reproduced on another computer?

Ran some tests, it only seems to happen when running in the IDE. If
you compile the app, it works OK. Perhaps that sheds some light on
the problem?

Please try 8.2pr11.
Maybe it is a bug in the plugins which has already been fixed.

In the IDE it can always be the corrupt product cache.

The cache folders were all empty. Is there somewhere else I should look?

I'll download 8.2pr11 and let you know.

No. Of course you should avoid having plugins from different versions
mixed.

All of the plugins are from the same version. There are no other
plugins, other than those from MBS.

Ok. So I have no idea what is happening.

Can you try another computer?
Or make a new user on your machine and try it there?

I did an interesting experiment. In preparation to do the above test,
I copied my project's folder to the root of the hard drive (it was in
a folder in my user home directory) so I could run it under another
account. Before making another user account, I decided to try it
under my existing account. It seems to work fine! So I moved it back
to the old location, and the copy still works fine, but the original
generates the same crash:

Dyld Error Message:
Symbol not found: __Globals23.QuickTimePresentMBS%b%
Referenced from: /Users/cps/rbdev/Sound
Byte/SoundByte.debug.app/Contents/MacOS/SoundByte.debug
Expected in: /Users/cps/rbdev/Sound
Byte/SoundByte.debug.app/Contents/MacOS/rbframework.dylib

Any ideas what may have caused this? Some strange permissions issue?

It seems to be related to the name/path of the folder containing the
project. I had added an X on the end of the folder when I moved it
back to the old location (so I could keep the old folder as well).
When I removed the X, it no longer worked. When I added an extra
letter to the name of the old folder, it too worked. Weird. Not your
problem, but I thought I would pass it along in case someone else
ever has the same problem.

Now that it is working, I can finally start to play around with
ChartDirector! This looks like a very useful package. Thanks for
porting it over.

Is your volume a case-sensitive volume? I've seen lots of oddities
with RB on case-sensitive filesystems.

Hi Tim,

No, I don't have a case-sensitive volume. I made
another change, and change the name of the folder
from "Sound Byte" to "SoundByte", and that also
works.

Hmmm, maybe the path is not being escaped properly internally within
the plugin. Christian?

REALbasic does load the plugin file...

Sorry, no idea and you are the first to report this.

Same problem with 8.2pr11

/Library/Caches/REALbasic is empty
There is no folder called ~/Library/Caches/Realbasic as mentioned on
http://www.monkeybreadsoftware.de/realbasic/plugincache.shtml

/Library/Application Support/REALbasic is also empty.
