From: Christian Schmitz
Hi,

* Updated DynaPDF to version 3.0.38.108.
* Deprecated CocoaControlMBS control. Please use concrete Cocoa controls and tell us if something is missing.
* Added NSDatePickerControlMBS control.
* Added WindowsPlayerMBS class.
* Changed NSScrollViewMBS to be a subclass of NSControlMBS. See example for ContainerControl in a ScrollView.
* Fixed bug in class extension function setters not being called! (introduced in pr5).
* Marked AppleScriptMBS as deprecated in favor of NSAppleScriptMBS as Apple deprecated the underlaying functions for Mac OS X 10.8.
* Changed function EncodingToHTMLMBS and DecodingFromHTMLMBS to work correctly for higher Unicode characters like smileys. Also changed a couple of string handling functions to support that.
* The DynaPDF dialog for complaining about old serial number shows the key now.
* Added Brightness property for CGDisplayMBS class.
* Updated CGDisplay* classes to show more properties in debugger and work in console projects.
* Remove last cases where plugin would query Gestalt for system version and cause a warning on console.
* Added advanced Twain methods for capabilities.
* Added CoreAudioListenerMBS class to listen for events like audio setup changed.
* Added contents, labels and identifiers functions to ABMultiValueMBS class to help easier inspecting what's inside.
* We limit curl progress event and yielding to maximum 60 per second, just to make sure we don't spend all CPU time on progress update or yielding.
* Fixed bug for SQL ODBC plugin functions to return error messages without garbage text in-between.
* Changed SQL Plugin to default to Scrollable = false for cursors. You can enable it if you need.

Greetings
Christian

How about Christian updates the toolbar with searchfield example? I remember that this was one of the more unpleasant examples. There is also the opportunity to make this simpler and easier to understand.

Thanks, so far it works.

Next thing: how do i make the searchmenu work again?

In CocoaControlMBS you showed an example to constract that menu from within the GetView handler … how would I add a menu now?

the plugin doesn't implement it, but Xojo.

So I add event in Xojo for NSSearchFieldControlMBS, it shows me all the events with Action, keyDown, keyUp, mouse and drag events.

Yes, that's nice, thanks. I was just responding that there are many things deprecated by Apple, not just recent Carbon and QuickTime.

We still have a class for Resource Fork in MBS Plugins.
Also we use QuickDraw on older systems.

And as of today still build plugins for PPC.

I'm using PillButtons. Is that the correct name? Screenshot here: http://www.manual.mothsoftware.com/reference/setup/files/select_data_format.png . I mean the smallish buttons with Select and New.

Isn't it exactly the same here? Christian says it's going to be deprecated and you even have possible alternatives. So just prepare the move with enough time for that.

The only things I recalled apple deprecating recently was quicktime and carbon, They warned everyone back in 2005 at WWDC that they where going to do that. It came to no surprise when it actual happened. They warned everyone years in advance, which gave time to move. The move to 64 bit mac Only was warned would happen in the future when mac OSX 10.8 went to beta at WWDC. They have not removed 32 bit support yet. But I assuming soon they will, just how soon?

Well, only Christian can say if they will work the same way. The final result may be the same, but how it's coded may be different. It probably won't be a transparent transition.

Okay. And Christian has done the same thing here. He's warned everyone that CocoaControlMBS will eventually go away, but not right now. So, you can still use it. Plus, he has also said that he will be introducing individual controls that will replace the functionality of CocoaControlMBS, and I'm sure that work will be complete before CocoaControlMBS eventually goes away. So, I don't understand what the problem here is. You won't be losing functionality.

Sincerely,

Scott

I not sure what I can do?

The cocoa Controls I need for my apps to work right. Your plugin is the only way I found to get these mac OSX items to work into real studio and now Xojo.

Now I find out that I will not be able to support many many things I did before. The only way I know to keep using these things is use swift and Xcode, because if there not be supported with your awesome plugin and it is awesome. It allowed me to do some awesome things.

I do not want do move development tools again, I moved from Hyper Crad to Super Card to Real Basic to Revolution /Livecode to Real Studio/ Xojo. I do not want to move again, but when I find out things I need maybe deprecated I have a problem that I have to fix so way.

I am very depressed about this news. I am small independent developer. I not a huge company I do not have the resources to spend thousands of dollars on making a app or reprogramming it over and over again with several different development tools.

I just wonder if using Apples own tools is not the best option for a small independent developer, specially since they now have swift. The only changes one has to deal with is Apples changes and every tool has to deal with those.

I guessing with xojo move to 64 bit soon, that I can not just use plugin version 15 forever either. I will need to upgrade.

no problem.

if you build a NSPopover at runtime, you just use NSVIew subclasses from our plugins and you have no need for CocoaControlMBS.

CocoaControlMBS is just a general wrapper control to put a NSView on a Xojo window.

Okay, but which NSView subclasses do you use with CocoaControlMBS?

I just coded that this night :-)
So you can put that control directly in a Xojo window for previews.

Can you use NSSearchFieldControlMBS instead?
it should work better with Xojo runtime.

Hello,

I be very Honest with you I do not care about tabbing.

I one use Popovers witch as you know requires to use cocoaControls because there no way I actual know to add control other than CocoaControlMBS to a PopOver window. If many controls are missing then I guess I have to stop using pop overs witch would be dispointing.

Secondly I use the following often. (mostly because Xojo does not have the properties I need for these control to work on mac, or does support them.)

QLPreviewViewControlMBS
NSImageViewMBS
NSToolbarMBS (mostly the custom toolbar)
NSSearchFieldMBS
NSDatePickerMBS
PDFThumbnailViewControlMBS
PDFViewControlMBS
PDFViewMBS
NSTextViewMBS
webViewMBS
NSScrollViewMBS
CALayerMBS
IKImageBrowserCellMBS
IKImageBrowserItem
IKImageBrowserViewMBS

I sure there others that I have not thought of, but most above are used in several apps I do. And really hope there not removed.

Thanks,

Hello,

Whether you care or not about tabbing doesn't make a difference: the control was malfunctioning for many uses. I'm sure you understand not only you could use the control.

it doesn't work nice with other Xojo controls. Tabbing does not work.

I'd like to replace them with full controls. But I can't know what you guys use unless I deprecate/remove something.

Why is CocoaControlMBS Deprecated? Is there a reason, because I use this in several projects that on the app stores and now am wonder why its being change and if I be force to re code all my projects now. I curious.

I’m making use of CustomNSSearchfieldMBS, based on code from your example project :
/CocoaControls/Search Field/CustomSearchField with menu.xojo_binary_project

This example is based on CocoaControlMBS. Will you eventually adjust your example project(s), in order to show how to achieve the same thing without the deprecated control?

I’m afraid, I depend on that …

And I’m using also QLPreviewViewMBS, based on your example /SnowLeopard/QuickLook/QLPreviewViewMBS.xojo_binary_project which is also using CocoaControlMBS.

If you skip CocoaControlMBS, I would need to find a replacement (and an updated example on how to replace this) as well.

Hello,

If CoccoaControlMBS is removed will all the same items be it did be replaced??? The CoccoaControlMBS is the only reason why I bought MBSComplete plugin in the first place. And if it was not for your plugin supporting these thing I would never used Real Studio/ Xojo past 2011 I need these items so much that it is really concerning to see the word Deprecated next to them. Sorry. I just thought you swap the controls and do the things you did in GetView in Open event.
I normally now put there instead of

n = new SomeClass(...)

a line

n = me.view

to take the view from the control.
The rest of the code is the same.
If some event/property/method is missing, please ask me.

Thanks Christian, I think I will be able to get it to work with your example.

My problem is that I do not only make use of a recent items menu, but that I add some custom menues there. The user can select the kind of search he wants to do from the searchfield (Like “Begins with”, “Contains”, etc)

See screenshot: http://osswald.com/xojo/mbs/cocoacontrol.png

To build this same functionality again is not straight forward and gives me some headaches. And steals time I did not plan for this … Sigh.

At the moment I can not yet use it, because I don’t know how to implement a searchmenu with it.

You have an example for a searchmenu which makes use of CocoaControlMBS and CustomNSSearchfieldMBS, but before I can replace this now deprecated version, I need to learn how to do the same kind of menu with NSSearchFieldControlFieldMBS - if this is feasible. Any chance you could show us how to do this?
