Hi Christian,

There really aren't too many extra things required, and of course it would make the plugin more complete for other users as a substitute for QuickTime:

Get the current amplitude of a playing sound file
Get playback position
Check if done playing
Get the raw sound data (samples)

Set playback position
Set the active segment (starting and ending positions that actually get played)
Set playback rate (speed)
Set playback pitch
Set playback volume
Set Output device and channel mappings - this means there also needs to be a way to get a list of the valid sound output devices

(some of these may already exist, this is a list of what I require)

Sounds like work...

Well, you can make a list and send to me for review :-)

Thanks, Christian. Do you think it would be possible to extend this class? I'd need the ability to set the output device and channel mapping, set the position, volume, etc. I could create a list of the requirements if you'd like to see it.

WindowsPlayerMBS class does that:

http://www.monkeybreadsoftware.net/class-windowsplayermbs.shtml

it was written for a client to play small mp3 from memory in background.

Christian,

Have you considered writing a plugin that handles playing mp3 files, etc on Windows via winmm.dll or some other tech built into Windows? I'm thinking this might be very useful, with QuickTime being depreciated.
